Series; The Loyal Retainers (Chushingura), 1855

The Loyal Retainers - Attractive design from a series depicting the acts of the classic kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true story of the 47 ronin and their quest to avenge their master's death. Each design features portraits of two characters surrounded by a background scattered with confetti-like shapes in yellow and blue. The title cartouche is bordered with the ronin's traditional black and white dogtooth pattern. Nice expressive figures from this popular play.

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Small hole, repaired. Creasing, ink marks, including on face and arm. Please see photos for details.
