Ginjuro's Wife Oyumi from the Play Whirlpools of Awa, 1806 - Lovely scene depicting Oyumi, the wife of Ginjuro, and her young son in the play "Whirlpools of Naruto" (Awa no Naruto). The boy is starting on a pilgrimage, with a straw mat hanging over his back, a walking stick, and a string of shrine tags around his neck. His mother bends over him with her arm tenderly placed around his shoulder, the boy appearing very young and small against her tall willowy figure. A charming design, also in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. This print comes with a label that states that it was a gift from the collection of Florence Lounsbery Alexander in 1951, but that information has been crossed out, so we are not sure what that means (see below). Pencil notations describe the subject, but refers to Ginjuro as Jurobei.
