Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
The Courtesan Nagao

Comments - Charming scene of the courtesan Nagao and her kamuro or child apprentice strolling through the Yoshiwara at night. She walks along on tall black lacquer geta clogs, her black outer kimono decorated with a large red parrot above blossoming plants along the water's edge. Her hair is arranged in two large loops adorned with combs and many hairpins. At top left, the silhouettes of beauties can be seen in the shoji windows of the upper story of a teahouse, the eaves below hung with red paper lanterns. An attractive design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars.
