Taira Tomomori and the Dragon Princess, 1881

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the warrior Taira no Tomomori meeting with the Dragon Princess. He stands at left, gripping a pole arm over his shoulder as he glares angrily at the maid of honor Kyoku. In the center, the Dragon Princess smiles happily as she looks over her shoulder, with a colorful robe patterned with stylized waves and coral branches, trimmed with a ruffled collar, and a headdress with a dragon figurine. At right, Choemon of the Obiya carries his sweetheart on his back. Blossoming cherry branches frame the night sky above. From left, the actors are Nakamura Shikan, Iwai Hanshiro, Ichikawa Danjuro, Nakamura Fukusuke, and Nakamura Shikan. The first time we've offered this attractive design.
