Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Shinrei Sugawara Jikki" at the Harukiza or Haruki Theater of a confrontation taking place in front of Lord Fujiwara no Shihei's carriage. In the center, the nobleman holds a lantern up as he glares angrily at the men at left. At upper left, Shimada Jiro lifts his hat for a closer look while below, Shimada Jiro grips his sword with both hands. At bottom center, the beauty Ayako falls backwards in alarm, holding up her sleeve. At right, the samurai Masaya Jisaku prepares to draw his weapon. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sumizo V, Ichikawa Kodanji V, Sawamura Tanosuke IV, Kataoka Gado III, and Ichikawa Udanji. A lively scene with large expressive figures and blossoming cherry branches framing the deep red sky.
