Early Autumn Play at the Meijiza: The New Eighteen Best Kabuki Plays: Omori Hikoshichi, 1896

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as the samurai Omori Hikoshichi in the play "Omori Hikoshichi" at the Meijiza or Meiji Theater. He looks up with a slight frown as colorful maple leaves drift down through the sky, a folding fan decorated with peonies in his outstretched hand. He wears a brown kamishimo over a tan floral print kimono, his hair pulled back into a ponytail tied with a purple cord. A striking design with the large figure filling the scene, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and trim and a scattering of metallic gold flecks across the background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 26 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses corners and edge, tears at edges, repaired. Diagonal folds in right panel, slight creasing, a few spots, light stain. Please see photos for details.
