Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from Act 6 of the classic kabuki play about the 47 ronin, "Kanadehon Chushingura." At left, Kampei has just returned from hunting to find his wife, Okaru, leaving in a palanquin. She has sold herself to a brothel to get the money for her father to join the vendetta against Moronao. Kampei presses his hand to the pole of the palanquin to stop it, grimacing angrily. He carries a gun over his shoulder with his straw rain coat slung over it. The beauty leans out of the conveyance, reacting with a worried expression, while the brothel owner at right leans back in surprise. An interesting interpretation of this act, nicely detailed.
