Soga Goro Tokimune and Soga Juro Sukenari, 1860

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Soga Goro Tokimune and Soga Juro Sukenari, two famous samurai brothers who avenged their father's death. At bottom, the younger brother Goro looks up with a worried frown, wearing a blue vest patterned with his trademark butterflies. Juro grimaces angrily as he looks to the side, showing his teeth. His blue vest feature plovers in flight. Above, a cuckoo flies through the night sky as raindrops fall. Nice expressive figures, detailed with faint embossing on the light blue kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold at side. Slight thinning at edge, a couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases, spot. Please see photos for details.
