Comments - Charming scene of beauties playing music together. In the center, a seated woman uses slender mallets to strike a small xylophone called a mokkin. Her companion holds a moon lute. At left, a beauty plays a long zither with two strings, while another woman plucks a shamisen at right. Behind her, a young girl holding a book pauses to watch. An ornate black lacquer stand holds utensils for the tea ceremony and scrolls, with a clock and a potted branch of coral on the top shelf. In the center, a rectangular container holds a bonsai pine tree. An attractive design with wonderful detail, including burnishing on the lacquer stand. The first time we've seen this subject.
