Beauties on the Tokaido Road - Lovely portrait from Eisen's wonderful series pairing beauties with the stations of the Tokaido Road. Following the success of Hiroshige's "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido," Eisen created his own version in the 1830s featuring large beauty portraits in the foreground with landscapes above. These attractive designs demonstrate Eisen's mastery of the classic Japanese beauty subject, combined with travel along the famed Tokaido, with views ranging from bustling villages to the serene countryside. Beautifully printed with rich, jewel-tone color and soft shading, these handsome images are a great choice for display.

Woodblock reprints - In the 20th century, artists and publishers collaborated to recreate famous woodblock prints for interested Japanese collectors and Westerners looking for rare designs. New blocks were made, and the prints were painstakingly printed by artisan printers in the same method as the 19th century originals - one block for each color. Woodblock reprints were an opportunity to collect and enjoy a famous design at a small fraction of the price of an original. They still are today.
