Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Young Samurai Kakemono, circa 1843 - 1844

Comments - Fantastic vertical diptych or kakemono of a young samurai in springtime, a branch covered with delicate pink blossoms behind him. He looks over his shoulder, a slender bamboo pole in his hand. His black kimono features striking blue insets patterned with white plum blossoms, and his paulownia family crest appears on the shoulders and sleeve. A terrific design, beautifully composed and drawn. A handsome Edo era design.
