Geisha with Sake Cup

Series; Beautiful Women of Edo

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Geisha with Sake Cup - Lovely Kiyomine portrait of a geisha holding a shallow red lacquer sake cup in her extended hand, a shamisen at her side. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek bun, adorned with tortoiseshell combs and hairpins, and she wears fashionable two-tone lipstick. The stripes on her dark red kimono are embossed, along with the gray plaid design of the collar. An attractive design with fine line work in the hairline, rarely seen in reprint.

Image Size - 15 1/4" x 10 1/4" + margins as shown
