Illustration of the Emperor's Triumphant Return, 1895 - Interesting illustration of the Meiji Emperor returning to the Imperial Palace in triumph after Japan's victory in the Sino-Japanese War. At right, he rides in an ornate carriage passing under an archway of greenery and flags. Troops on horseback follow behind. Colorful red and white paper lanterns are strung across the road, adding a festive atmosphere. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms.
