Comments - Great five-panel kabuki image of the "Gonin Otoko" or "Five Chivalrous Men," a group of five thieves. The street knights pose beneath blossoming plum branches, wearing similar kimono with large diamond patterns at the hem and checked obi. Each is armed with a single sword and a shakuhachi flute, which could be used as a weapon if needed. From left, the roles are Gokuin Sen'emon, An no Heibei, Kaminari Shokuro, Arashi Rikan III as Hotei Ichiemon, and Iwai Kumesaburo III as Karigane Bunshichi. Nice expressive figures set against the softly shaded night sky. Rare to find complete.
