Young Girls Enjoying the Cherry Blossoms, circa 1830s

Comments - Charming image of three young girls enjoying a picnic under the flowering cherry trees. The girl at left threads slices of tofu onto skewers for grilling, looking up with an eager smile. Her companion in the center fastens a blue towel around her hairstyle, her sleeves already tied back with a red sash. She wears a red tie-dyed apron over her blue floral kimono, a fan resting against her knee to fan the glowing red coals in the brazier before her. The girl at right carries a stacking black lacquer box, her hair arranged in to large loops. Cloth panels are hung from the trees to provide privacy. A handsome design, nicely detailed. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Wormholes throughout, small losses at edges, repaired. Curling, slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
