Ichikawa Ensho and Ichikawa Sadanji as Sumo Wrestlers, 1902

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Ichikawa Ensho and Ichikawa Sadanji as sumo wrestlers. The fellow at right leans forward with an angry frown, his chin tilted up defiantly, a blue and white towel in his hand. He wears a dark violet coat with a blue and gray border of ropes that matches his kimono. His companion looks over his shoulder with a scowl as he pushes up the sleeve of his boldly patterned robe. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Ensho and Ichikawa Sadanji. Nice expressive figures, detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. Slight soiling and curling, a few creases and small spots, stain. Please see photos for details.
