Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Hachijin Shugo no Honjo (Eight Battle Arrays to Protect Honjo Castle) of a beauty on a verandah pleading with a samurai. She leans forward, holding one hand to her chest and the other out behind her, a sober expression on her face. The warrior waves a sword at her, grimacing unhappily. He wears a red kamishimo patterned with a dragon and clouds over a black kimono with a yellow geometric print. The beauty wears a red floral kimono, her hair adorned with clusters of tiny blue blossoms. A koto rests on the floor nearby, and purple draperies frame a view of the water beyond with low mountains on the horizon. From left, the actors are Nakamura Fukusuke and Ichikawa Danjuro. Nice large figures with vibrant color, detailed with a burnished pattern on the black areas of the kimono and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the sword and the beauty's hair ornament.
