Birth Ceremony of Receiving Visits from Other Families, 1889 - Charming scene of visitors arriving to celebrate the birth of a child. In the center, an elderly woman holds the baby as kneeling beauty reaches out to take the infant. In a room at left, the new mother recovers in bed, sitting upright in a special birthing chair. At right, two beauties carry a large tub of steaming water for the baby's bath, while others tend to gifts of cloth arranged atop trays. The men are gathered in a room behind at top center. A terrific image from daily life with wonderful detail in the interior setting and furnishing, and the elegant kimono and obi. A fascinating look at Japanese customs.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds. Small losses at edge, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling, a few marks. Please note, due to the size, this print may be shipped rolled. Please see photos for details.
