September Play at the Kabukiza

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from a play at the Kabukiza or Kabuki Theater in Tokyo of a samurai arguing with an elder. In the center, the samurai throws his hand out in alarm as he frowns angrily at the older nobleman at right. The nobleman scowls back at his as he holds a drumstick in one hand, a large drum hanging overhead at upper right. At left, a beauty watches with a concerned expression, her hand atop a knife hidden in her obi. From left, the actors are Nakamura Fukusuke, Onoe Kikugoro, and Ichikawa Danjuro. Nice large expressive figures, detailed with a burnished pattern on the black court cap.

Image Size - 14" x 27 3/4"
