Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Tale of the Soga Brothers, circa 1843

Comments - Handsome double portrait of the Soga Brothers, the samurai who avenged their father's death. Above, the impetuous younger brother Sogo Goro reaches for his sword, frowning as he looks over his shoulder. The older Juro kneels before him, throwing his hand out in a motion to restrain Goro. He wears a purple kimono tucked into blue and white pants patterned with his trademark plovers in flight. Goro wears a matching robe, his pants decorated with butterflies. An attractive design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold at side. A couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
