Bando Hikosaburo V as the Sumo Wrestler Onigadake Doemon - Terrific kabuki portrait of Bando Hikosaburo V as the sumo wrestler Onigadake Doemon. He has just insulted a rival by hitting him on the head with his sandal, considered a very humiliating act in Edo era Japan. He grimaces with rage as he holds the sandal in his outstretched hand. He wears a matching coat and kimono, tied with a red obi, his bulky frame filling the page. A wonderfully expressive figure.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Large losses at corners, stitching holes at side, thinning at edge, repaired. Creasing throughout, slight toning and soiling, rubbing at edges, a few stains. Please see photos for details.
