Aizuri-e Maiko

Comments - Interesting aizuri-e portrait of a maiko or apprentice geisha. Aizuri-e are woodblocks printed entirely or predominately in blue, a format that became popular during the Edo era with the introduction of imported blue pigment. She wears a light gray kimono decorated with large blossoms, her obi featuring repeated triangles. A paper lantern hangs above. A striking design.
