Series; Modern Beauties Compared to Flowers

Hollyhock, 1847 - 1852 - Handsome design from a rarely seen Yoshitora series pairing beauties with flowers. Here, a beauty leans forward as she reaches around her back to tie her obi. She wears a blue and black kimono patterned with blossoms over a red under robe, her hair arranged in a smooth bun adorned with a comb, a ribbon, and hairpins. At lower left, a pipe case and tobacco pouch lie on the floor. A border of clouds separates the figure from hollyhocks with red and blue blossoms. An attractive subject.
