Complete View of the Great Battle between the Two Generals of Kai Province and Echigo Province at Kawanakajima, 1859 - Dramatic scene from the Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of Takeda Shingen of Kai Province and Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo Province. At lower right, the Takeda samurai Hara Osumi Mamoru grips his spear with both hands, grimacing angrily as he fights off an attacker. His helmet is topped with a coiled snake, and the personal standard above his back is a wand of folded papers used in Shinto purification rites. The warrior below has a standard with an eerie skull on it. Fighting continues in the background, with samurai in dark silhouette against the night sky. A lively scene with nice detail in the armor and weapons.
