Comments - Interesting scene of a fight in the countryside from the kabuki play commonly known as "Tengajaya," a tale about two brothers seeking vengeance. At bottom center, a samurai wields his sword against two enemies as he stands atop one of them. He has already sent two footmen in black robes with striped collars tumbling head over heels at either side. At upper left, a young warrior in a white vest duels with an opponent. At upper left, another samurai watches the battle, his spear resting against his shoulder. Pine trees frame a view of the water beyond, sails dotting the horizon. A lively design with expressive figures, nicely detailed.
