Onoe Kikugoro as Tonase, 1825

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro as Tonase, the wife of Lord Wakasanosuke in the classic play about the 47 ronin, "Kanadehon Chushingura." She leans forward with an unhappy frown, holding the end of a scabbard in one hand. Her kimono is bordered with plum blossoms, tied with a black obi featuring decorative medallions. The room opens onto a garden with a large stone lantern and a pine tree. A nice expressive figure.
