Winter Scene from Inaka Genji, 1847 - 1852 - Beautiful triptych showing the young Mitsuuji, the "County Genji," and two beauties on a cold winter day. The nobleman sits on an elegant cushion at right, his legs extended under a kotatsu, a low table over a heat source, draped with a quilt to keep in the warmth. The beauty at left carries a ceramic brazier to place under the kotatsu, her kimono patterned with Genji symbols. The verandah opens onto a lovely view of a snow-covered garden and lake. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A charming design with an attractive setting
