Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichimura Uzaemon as the young Shirai Gonpachi, who is wanted for murdering a man in his home town. Here, he flings his hand up above his head as a burning candle in a lantern base is thrust at him. He frowns unhappily, his brows slightly furrowed. He wears a green kimono over a red under robe, his hair pulled back into a topknot, with a few loose hairs faming his face giving him a disheveled appearance. A large expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft shading in the night sky.
