Traveler Carrying a Boulder, 1855 - Interesting kabuki portrait of a young man traveling with what looks like a large boulder tied to his back with rope. He leans heavily on the rustic wooden pole of a bamboo garden fence as he makes his way up a slope, staring back over his shoulder with a rather crazed expression, his hair hanging shaggily at the sides of his face. A sword wrapped in brocade cloth rests ground below. An expressive figure and an unusual scene.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Diagonal wrinkle, vertical fold. Tear and loss at edge, a couple small holes, repaired. Creasing, soiling, slight toning, rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
