Tokugawa Shogun's Ship at Okawasuji - Fantastic scene depicting the Tokugawa Shogun's ship on the Okawa River, a massive craft with a two story cabin hung with striped awnings and purple drapery featuring the three hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa clan. Noblemen are seated on both levels, the upper floor decorated with fine screens patterned with trees and golden clouds. Rowers sit in a small gallery along the side of the ship, their oars extending into the rippling water below. A terrific design, beautifully detailed with burnishing on the black prow of the ship. A wonderful Chikanobu subject from life in the days of old Japan.
