The Soga Brothers' Attack, circa 1842 - 1843 - Interesting scene from the tale of the Soga Brothers, two young samurai who avenged their father's death. Here, they begin their attack on the Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo's hunting lodge at the foot of Mt. Fuji, seeking the murderer Suketsune. At lower left, Goromaru, one of Yoritomo's retainers, tightens the sash around his waist as he prepares to fight. Above, other samurai rush to the defense of the Shogun, who sits at upper right waring a yellow court cap. A huge pine tree frames the scene, and rain pours down through the night sky at upper left. A handsome design, nicely detailed.
