Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Flower Arranging, 1896

Comments - Beautiful triptych of an upper-class beauty preparing to arrange flowers. An attendant at left presents a tray of flowers and a pair of scissors, while the young woman at right carries in a pitcher of water to fill the empty container sitting on small red lacquer stand. An arrangement of iris and wisteria vines fills the low table behind them. Beautifully colored with fine delicate detail, including embossed patterns on the white collars and trim, and lacquer in the hair. A wonderful print depicting ikebana, the classic art of Japanese flower arranging.
