Original Nisaburo Ito (1910 - 1988) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ninomaru Garden at Nijo Castle

Nisaburo Ito - Born in Kyoto in 1910, shin-hanga artist Nisaburo Ito created many woodblock prints of flowers, landscapes, and noted shrines and temples around his hometown. Some of his designs reflect his study of nihonga or traditional Japanese painting, while others take on a more modern expression. His floral and nature subjects are beautifully rendered with wonderful color and attention to detail. His attractive prints are a lovely choice to collect or display.

Comments - Lovely landscape view of the Ninomaru Garden at Nijo Castle in autumn, featuring a lake framed by large boulders. At right, a small waterfall flows over the rocks into the pond, sheltered by a tall pine tree. The soft blue of the water is echoed in the blue patches of sky. An attractive composition with a subtle, warm color palette. Published by Uchida on watermarked paper with publisher's seal at lower right within image and publisher information in lower left margin.
