Onoe Kikugoro IV as Amakawaya's Wife Osono, 1864 - Interesting kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro IV as Amakawaya Gihei's wife Osono in the classic drama about the 47 ronin, "Kanadehon Chushingura." Her husband agreed to secretly store weapons for the vendetta, and Yuranosuke sent ronin to his shop to test his loyalty. Here, Osono eavesdrops outside the door with an alarmed expression as she hears the ronin threatening to kill the couple's young son, but Gihei remains steadfast. She wears a black hood and vest over a purple kimono, sheltering the light from her lantern with her sleeve. A nice expressive figure from a rarely seen Toyokuni III series.
