Scene from Imoseyama Onna Teikin, 1852 - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Imoseyama onna teikin," which tells the story of a coup that took place in 645, destroying the evil Soga no Iruka who sought to overthrow the emperor. Iruka sits on a cushion in his mansion, looking to the side with a worried frown, one hand resting atop a large folding fan. He wears a gray coat patterned with phoenixes and clouds and trimmed with a pleated collar over a kimono tucked into red pants. A circular inset at upper right depicts Motome. From left, the actors are Arashi Rikan III and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. Nice expressive figures.
