Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.
Whaling off the Goto Islands - Incredible Hokusai design of whaling off the Goto Islands of Japan during the Edo period. The whale surfaces amidst frothing white foam, with boats gathered along the shore ready to capture the creature. The small hut in the upper right was used for spotting whales offshore. A dramatic and unusual Hokusai print and a rare subject to find in reprint.
