Series; Legend of the Loyal Retainers, 1864

Legend of the Loyal Retainers - Terrific portrait from a chuban size series by Yoshitora depicting the famous 47 ronin, arranged by kana syllables. These lively designs show the ronin during the night attack at Moronao's mansion, swinging swords, fending off attackers, and searching for enemies. Each samurai wears the ronin's trademark black and white dogtooth bordered robe. Armor and weapons are carefully detailed, and the faces are expressively rendered. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this series in its collection. A handsome design and a nice choice for samurai enthusiast interested in this classic tale of honor and revenge.

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight soiling at edges. Some prints have a couple creases or small spots. Please see photos for details.
