Beauty Applying Lip Color

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Lovely image of a beauty absorbed in applying lip color. She looks into a hand mirror as she gently applies the color with a delicate brush. A white towel and bowls of makeup are scattered across the floor before her. She wears a subtle plaid kimono, and her hair is simply arranged into a large knot at the top of her head. A charming design of a young woman engaged in her daily beauty routine. A rare subject to find in reprint.
