Original Ito Shinsui (1898 - 1972) Japanese Woodblock Print
Three Thousand Years

Fuji Arts’ special acquisition from Momose - This print is from a beautiful group of limited edition prints recently acquired from the archives of the publisher, The Momose Print Company of Tokyo. We purchased the entire balance of the publisher’s limited-edition inventory of all designs. They are only available on the secondary market and have become increasingly difficult to find. The prints were originally offered in a shin-hanga limited edition promotion from Momose. The Shinsui and Kaburagi beauties were sold for 280,000 yen each (approx. $2,750).

Comments - Beautiful portrait of a young woman at her dressing table, looking pensively over her shoulder, her cheeks softly flushed with pink. Her light blue outer robe decorated with floral sprigs has slipped from her shoulders, revealing a peach kimono with an intricate tie-dyed pattern, worn over a red under robe with blossoms and leaves. Her hair is elegantly arranged in a large bun with wings framing her face, adorned with a translucent comb and a few hairpins. The red lacquer mirror case and stand repeats the color of the under robe. An outstanding shin-hanga beauty in the unusually large double oban format. This print comes from a group of woodblocks published by Momose based on earlier paintings by the artist.
