Bando Takesaburo I as Hayase Genjiro, 1854

Comments - Interesting portrait of Bando Takesaburo I as Hayase Genjiro in the kabuki play "Kaikei Dengajaya-mura." In the drama, Genjiro and his brother must find a missing painting that was entrusted to them and also avenge the murder of their father. Here, Genjiro tilts his head as he eavesdrops on a conversation in the next room, frowning as he tucks his hands up into his sleeve. He sits atop a bed, wearing a striped kimono over a red under robe, a black sash tied around his head. An expressive figure with a nicely detailed setting.
