Comments - Fantastic triptych of the young Soga Brothers sneaking up outside the hunting lodge of their sworn enemy, Suketsune, who murdered their father when they were young children. The eldest brother, Juro, listens at the door, a look of intense concentration on his face. He motions for his younger brother, Goro, to stay back as he strains to hear any activity inside. Goro lifts the cloth panel surrounding the temporary hunting camp, a flaming torch in his hand, as rain slants across the black night sky. An incredible scene of the moments just before the brothers will avenge their father's death. Terrific expressive faces and a dramatic composition framed by a rugged tree. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the armor and black caps.
