Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of the tobacco seller Tabakoya Genshichi tuning a shamisen as he prepares to entertain the Princess Omodaka. He looks up with a grimace as he adjusts a string on the instrument, the beauty watching him quietly. She wears a red kimono patterned with cherry blossoms, a cluster of tiny flowers adorning her hair. The samurai at right holds two pipes of tobacco the vender has urged him to try, his sword in his other hand. At left, a matron waits outside the garden gate, carrying a woven hat, a cloth bundle tied around her shoulders. A maple tree frames the red sky overhead. An interesting subject with lively color.
