Comments - Great kabuki scene from the play "Gochumon Shusu no Obiya," at tale about the married Choemon, the heir to the Obiya obi business, who falls in love with the fourteen-year-old Ohan of the Shinanoya store next door. At left, he crouches in the street, frowning angrily as he opens what looks like a pocketbook with a roll of tissues inside. At right, the samurai Kataoka Kozaemon scowls furiously as he holds an umbrella over his shoulder. A canal runs along either side of the walkway, with narrow wooden bridges leading across to the buildings along the water's edge. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Ebizo V and Onoe Kikugoro III. Wonderfully expressive figures in an interesting setting.
