Nakamura Shikan as Teranishi Kanshin, 1862

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as the wealthy samurai Teranishi Kanshin paying a visit to his enemy, the legendary street knight Banzui Chobei. Wearing a coat and kimono with an eerie pattern of stylized skulls and bones, Kanshin grimaces angrily as he looks over his shoulder. The interior setting is nicely detailed with curtains hanging in the doorway and a low bench at lower left. An expressive figure.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold. Tear at edge, a few wormholes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rippling, a couple stains, creasing and slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
