Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Traveling at Night, 1881

Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych showing a beauty and two men gathered beneath a maple tree as they travel by night. The woman rests her hands on a yoke over her shoulder as she chats with the fellow at right. He stares back at her with an angry frown, a folding fan dangling from a bamboo stalk over his shoulder. The fellow at left has pushed down his kimono, baring his muscular upper body. Colorful maple leaves frame the dark sky above. Only the second time we've seen this rare Chikanobu design.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels. Vertical folds. Small tear and loss at edge, a few holes, repaired. Wrinkling throughout, slight toning and soiling. Please note, due to the size, this print may be shipped rolled. Please see photos for details.
