Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Seigen, 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Koigoromo Karigane-zome" of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the priest Seigen, whose love for Princess Sakura leads to tragedy. Here, he sits on a straw mat looking up with a worried expression, short hair growing atop his no longer shaved head. A dipper rests in a bucket of water at right, and straw mats form temporary walls above. An expressive figure in a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A few creases and marks, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
