Beauties Collecting Silkworm Cocoons, 1867

Comments - Charming scene of beauties collecting silkworm cocoons for processing into silk. The woman at left gathers branches with cocoons attached from a shallow wicker tray, while the beauty at right holds an already full basket. In the distance, a woman leads a horse laden mulberry leaves to feed the caterpillars along an embankment next to a canal or flooded field. An interesting look at the art of sericulture, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars.
