From an untitled series of comic pictures of acts of the Chushingura, circa 1882

Comic Pictures of Acts of the Chushingura - Interesting design from an untitled comic series by Yoshitoshi depicting the acts of the famous kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the tale of the 47 ronin. In this unusual take on the dramatic story, Yoshitoshi creates amusing scenes of the characters in unlikely scenarios, such as the wild boar overrunning the villain Sadakuro in Act 5, or Yuranosuke threatening a laborer with Lord Hangan's dirk in Act 4. A rarely seen humorous Yoshitoshi series, rendered with lively line work.
