Series; Military Brilliance for the Eight Views, 1836

Autumn Moon at Ishibashiyama, 1836 - Fantastic depiction of the warrior Sanda Yoichi Yoshitada about to kill his enemy Matano Goro Kagehisa. He kneels atop his enemy, pinning him to a rocky island as waves crash all around them. Biting his lower lip in fierce determination, he raises his cased short sword in his other hand. At bottom center, a samurai clings to the rock in a desperate attempt to save himself from drowning. An enormous wave crests in a curve above, framing a view of Mt. Fuji in the distance ad a full moon above. A terrific, dramatic design from this rarely seen early Kuniyoshi series.
