Original Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825) Japanese Woodblock Print
Bando Mitsugoro and Segawa Kikunojo, 1820

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene featuring Bando Mitsugoro as the servant Hachizo and Segawa Kikunojo as a beauty. Hachizo looks up with an angry frown as he sharpens the blade of his sword on a whetstone, a bucket of water with a dipper in it nearby. The beauty watches him suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes, her mouth slightly agape. She holds a drawstring purse in one hand as she tucks the other into her tie-dyed obi. At upper left, another bucket rests on a stone beside a well surrounded by foliage. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 15 1/4" x 20 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
